Just a quick update.. pike and pike and pike

just a quick note to let you know where I have been and the blog has been really very quiet. Sorry about this I have either been doing DIY on my new house or working. But Now I have been back on the bank again and I am having some success.

I have been hitting the pike in “The Mets” lake part of the Thorney Weir syndicate complex. And apart from not having any large fish I have not been doing too badly numbers wise with not a blank in sight so far. Indeed on a recent session I managed to get 2 in the net at the same time. Piking with lures – Stay mobile

Well the winter is now fully here with temperature fully in to the negatives each night. with this in mind my efforts have swapped over to predator fishing and in particular to the pike. Now i know that a lot of you will point out that many of the lakes are frozen solid at the moment but the rivers are running free and this is where you should concentrate. As it is so cold I am not really the kind of angler that likes to sit on my back side swapping the sit and wait style of carping for the pike… no I prefer to keep moving and adopt a roving approach. If something is not working get moving, if you are cold… get moving.

Setting up a stinger on Rubber Lures with wire

After the recent article detailing how to setup rubber lures with little more than braid and flurocarbon I thought I would do a quick post on how to set them up with wire if you are fishing waters that have significant numbers of pike or if you are fishing a water where wire is mandated. Personally speaking as long as the water has a low number of pike and you are vertical jigging, I dont see an issue fishing with out wire but for those places where there are loads of pike here is how you set up your lure with wire.

This in this article I will use the rather versatile Fox rubber pro shads as they are my favourite “big” rubber lure and do seem to catch almost anything. Indeed I have had several size able pike to them over the years ( note that the zander only started last year..)
