pimp your spomb

Inspired by a post on carp-forums.co.uk I decided to “pimp my spomb” I have no idea what it has done to the aerodynamics but I suspect it will work just fine… and be purple and gold spangly at the same time. Now I can Spomb in style ! and I have the perfect accompaniment to my pink marker braid.

Watch out Thorney Weir, when you see my pink and gold missile flying over head you will know that there is some serious carping about to happen… or something like that. So what have you senselessly pimped / modified in your time ? share it in a comment below.

UPDATE with quite a lot of embarrassment I have just realized that there was a pimp your spomb competition run by Spomb themselves on facebook… oh well just one of the joys ofย  “not doing facebook” ™ – I think I will mail to them to see if mine would have won ๐Ÿ™‚

We have a winner !

Hi all

we have a winner in the spomb competition, I will be contacting the 2 lucky winners in the next day or so and hope to have the spombs winging their way over to you be the weekend

the winning weight was 99grams, yes salmon fry crumb is light ๐Ÿ™‚

I will be contacting Cosimo and Serena to get their postal addresses to send on their prizes. Well done to both of you and happy spombing !

My thanks go to all that entered, and if you were not lucky this time then there will be more competitions running over the winter so keep checking back soon

Thanks to all of you who entered and if you have any suggestions for the site, please do drop me a mail via the contact me button at the top of the page or leave a comment.

Sadly the weather has turned for the worse in the UK and the lakes all seem to have frozen solid with the bad weather we have been having recently so apart from a few river piking sessions it will be a few weeks before I can get back on the bank again.

Competition time – Win a Spomb !

It is that time of the year again ! I have 2 Spomb‘s that I will give away courtesy of Mr Spomb at www.spomb.com my review of them can be found here and suffice to say I loved it as a product. Like Ronseal, it does exactly what it says on the tin and if you need to get out humongous amounts of bait out into the lake the easiest way possible – look no further.

Anyway to be in with a chance of winning one of the above spomb’s all you need to do is tell me How much in grams does a spomb fully loaded with salmon fry crumb pellet weigh ?

To enter click here ( Note competition has closed)ย  and type your answer, the closest 2 answers by the 13:00 (GMT) on the 29th November 2010 will win a spomb each, in case of duplicate answers the 1st received in my mailbox will count. Please ensure that you put the correct email address in the form, if I have to mail a winner and it bounces then you have lost and I will award the prize to the next closest entry. Please dont send me your postal address unless you have received a mail from me indicating you have won. There is no cash alternative this is all in good faith and a bit of fun and only one entry per person please.

Good luck

The future of spodding is here and it is Spomb shaped !

Spodding is a chore that few of us enjoy, it can be back breaking messy work and one messed up cast can send every carp in the vicinity scurrying for the hills as your spod sends up a great gout of water as it slams into the surface. Imagine if I told you that there was another way… a way in which spodding can suddenly become easier, mess messy and a hell of a lot less back breaking ?

Well there is such a way.. enter the SPOMB

What is it ? well unlike a traditional spod, the design of which has not changed for several years it is not just a rocket shaped design with an open back but a fully enclosed bait delivery capsule. This has several massive advantages,

  • You don’t need to have groundbait / mud handy to pack the back of the spod
  • You can bait up with pure hemp / small particle with out having to clean it off your back / head
  • it flies like an arrow
  • It retrieves over the surface skipping like a coot

The last point is what steals it for me, my biggest bug bear with spodding is the retrieve. No matter which spod you use it is like you are trying to pull ( in effect) a small parachute back through the water towards you. This is what really wears me down and is one of the reasons I was considering buying a bait boat. However with the spomb this is now a thing of the past.
